The BlackBerry world of Twitter apps is soon to get a lot more crowded. This morning, Tweeteev sent out an email to selected alpha testers, informing them that their copy of the upcoming Twitter application for BlackBerry (and Android!) is coming soon, “in August no matter what,” with a full release happening not long after that. Between this and Socialscope and other apps, there’s definitely a little something for everyone. Keep reading for the text of the email sent to alpha testers. Continue reading

As of this morning, BlackBerry’s on-device application store, BlackBerry App World, has been updated to version 1.1.0.11. Unlike prior updates, this is one you’re going to want to hit up, because it adds some significant functionality, including the ability to archive applications to your memory card (not run them, just store them). New features include:
- Archive applications (free or purchased) to the external microSD memory card
- Enjoy quick re-installation of applications
- Choose to browse free or paid applications when viewing catalog
The update also includes a lot of corrections for assorted issues and bugs. It’s definitely a step in the right direction, one that addresses the problem of limited application memory on almost all BlackBerrys.

I was sad to find that most instant messaging clients (AIM, GoogleTalk, MSN etc.) and facebook no longer worked on my BlackBerry after a recent OS upgrade. With the fear of losing communication with the outside world I started looking for an app that had it all. Alas! I stumbled upon Palringo! Palringo is a universal instant messaging client that can be downloaded to your mobile phone or computer that gives you access to:
- Windows Live Messenger ® (MSN)
- AOL ® Instant Messenger (AIM)
- Yahoo! ® Messenger
- Google Talk ™
- ICQ ®
- Jabber ®
- iChat® / MobileMe ®
- QQ ®
- Gadu-Gadu ®
- Facebook Chat (Alpha)
Yes indeed, facebook chat! And besides instant messaging, Palringo allows the sending of voice messages and pictures, sharing locations, and updating of statuses on various social networking sites. If you like all your instant messages in one convenient place, check out Palringo HERE and let us know if it’s for you!

According to one of Boy Genius Report’s ninjas, a codename-less BlackBerry is on it’s way that will supposedly be launched as the BlackBerry 9700.
The few specs that are available don’t really tell much of anything, other than the 9700 being a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA handset with a 480×360 resolution display, WiFi, QWERTY keyboard, a 3.2MP AF camera, and Bluetooth, and it will be running OS 5.0.
That’s all the information available at this time, and there’s not even pictures right now.
Thoughts? Share them in the comments.

Update: My suspicions were correct. Boy Genius’ ninja had the incorrect information, and the 9700 does NOT exist. Instead, these seem to be the specs for the upcoming BlackBerry 9020, a GSM version of the BlackBerry Tour that dropped on Verizon and Sprint last month.

Skyfire has released an official statement regarding this week’s leak of their alpha BlackBerry software on their blogs:
Unfortunately, our Skyfire BlackBerry Alpha was leaked today and we’ve temporarily stopped our private Alpha program. Our intention with this Alpha was to get some early feedback under NDA with a limited number of BlackBerry Bold users – all under NDA during this early dev phase. We know that we have lots more work ahead of us, so we intentionally limited the number of participants as well as the development to the Bold model. Needless to say, this leak was not conducive to the intent of our Alpha.
During the time it was leaked, there were many BlackBerry users trying the Alpha release on Curves, Storms and other BlackBerry models – it was not intended for these devices. Of course, eventually, we will expand the program to include more participants and more BlackBerry models. In the meantime, we appreciate BlackBerry users’ interest in Skyfire and we’re working hard to get to the Open Beta BlackBerry finish line.
